Sew a Dart
Starting at the seam line at the widest part of the dart, place the sewing machine needle in the seam line.
Step 1
Put the presser foot down and back-stitch, if the wide part of the dart is in a seam line. (See "Double-Pointed Darts.")
Step 2
Remove straight pins as you approach them with the sewing machine needle.
Sew the majority of the dart on the marked seam line stopping near the pointed end of the dart. Reduce the stitch length to as short a stitch as possible without puckering the fabric. Sew to the end of the dart within one or two stitches from the edge so the dart comes to a point.
